He used three adapters in the video to make the pc 5.1 surround sound speakers work with the ps4

So if you are not going to hook it up as an actual 5.1 setup then just hook up the front speakers and call it a day.Īlright so I ordered a Belkin RockStar 5-Jack 3.5 mm Audio Headphone Splitter like this one online so I wanted know one more thing as I am buying a ps4 pro soon and it has a digital optical out port and if I do these steps done in the youtube video will it be true surround sound ?
Surround sound is not just a bunch of speakers playing the same exact thing, it is different sound going to each individual speaker. Doing what you are doing is giving the center the L speaker sound and the sub the R speaker sound. Your 5.1 speakers are designed under the assumption that the center speaker is getting data for ONLY the center channel, and the sub is getting ONLY low frequency signal. You "could" do this with the front and rear speakers doing this with the center and sub at best it would sound like absolute crap, at worst it would damage them. <- like this one but with 3 female connectors and plug the male 3.5mm to the female headphone jack What will happen if I get an audio splitter with at least 3 female connectors and connect it to female headphone jack (3,5 mm)and the sound will all in stereo right? There is a reason why there is completely different product line for home theater surround sound vs pc surround speakers. You will need 1 more HDMI cable, and a toslink optical cable to go between the two boxes.Īs stated this will only work for the HDMI input, your coax will not have surround sound.Īlso FYI, this is not going to be that good in most environments, those PC speakers are designed for a very listening environment. Then you will need to convert the optical data to the 3x3.5 mm inputs:

This is only going to work for what is plugged in via HDMI, your TV has no connection ability to provide 5.1 for your coax cable input.įirst you need to extract the surround audio from HDMI with this: Since your TV does not even have an optical out you are going to have to dual stage this in order to get anything but 2 channel stereo. Which makes the surround sound completely pointless and should just use the normal 2 speakers and call it a day.
So with your setup you cant use your center/subwoofer at all (or at least not without it sounding like pure garbage), and so all you get is 4 speakers playing the same sound instead of 2. Your setup is taking 5.1 surround sound, dropping it to stereo (so only 2 speakers) and then just providing more speakers playing the same exact sound.
This will result in you still having actual surround sound where the rears and the center have completley different sound then the front L/R, and the sub ONLY gets the low frequency range sound it should get for bass. What my original setup would do is take the surround sound data (so 5.1) from toslink and convert it to the 3 plugs you need. If you put an apple in front of a mirror you are not going to see a peach in the mirror. You cant take a splitter and get DIFFERENT data to the split connections. Your PC and PC surround systems have 3 plugs to provide individual data for all 5 speakers + 1 subwoofer (so 6 total). Surround sound works because you have SEPARATE data for all speakers.
